Monday 9th March
Well the Festival’s really under way now and what a fantastic weekend we’ve had.
Just catching my breath between today’s schools programme and tonight’s first session to capture some of the highlights from the last couple of days.
Great opening event with Alan Bennett and there wasn’t a spare seat in the house! He charmed the audience with readings from his diaries and had us all in stitches reminiscing about his days with Russell Harty.
Had to revise our crowd control as 400 emptied out of the theatre as 400 waited to go into Robert Fisk.
The rafters were rung at the finals of both Poetry Slams, the Mitchell’s been alive with children’s voices and laughter, Daleks descended and a brilliant wee boy came to the Beano event as Dennis the Menace – just great!
The Green Room is buzzing with authors catching up with each other, with overheard conversations ranging from discussions on Nietzsche to where’s the best place for a curry in Glasgow.
Extremely generous nips after the Homecoming Whisky Stories event saw crowds of people leaving the Mitchell with a very warm glow – walking home of course.
Interesting mix tonight of Darwin events, Joan Bakewell’s first novel, Gaelic rings, mystery and secrets around Daphne Du Maurier topped off with Glasgow reminiscences and murder.
Look forward to seeing you at the Mitchell!
