Wee Write! Programmer Margaret Houston talks planning!
Posted on in
Way back in ‘sunny’ August my thoughts - and life - turned to planning Glasgow’s 5th Wee Write book festival and my real determination was/is to make this edition a great mix of fantastic children’s authors, illustrators and storytellers. My first ‘go to’ was to sound out my amazing UK publisher contacts and get their suggestions for the festival – who? What? up comings? Must-haves?
Months later and after much planning and strong cups of coffee - a fabulous programme emerged, offering a lovely mix of events – from detectives and dinosaurs, cartoons and CAKE, to magic, mystery and mayhem! After all, what’s a book festival without a bit of mayhem?
I’m really looking forward to EVERYTHING and I must squeeze some time in - as I whizz around the Mitchell - to sneak a peek at the wonderfully, wacky Chae Strathie’s event: ‘Dear Dinosaur: T Rex on Tour’ which includes an appearance on stage by a huge roaring dinosaur. Hope I don’t get called up to feed him though - the dinosaur I mean, not Chae!
Not to be missed!
I soooo hope to catch some of ‘Who Let the God’s Out’ presented by Maz Evans - a real high energy event which has been thrilling festival audiences down South and then I’m going ‘all cosmic’ at another ‘star’ event - sorry - ‘Astronauts and Space’, a brilliantly interactive event for all young space lovers.
Just 5 weeks of sleeps to go to until my team and I welcome lots of eager festival goers to Wee Write. I can’t wait for the amazing buzz the festival brings to our iconic Mitchell Library and I really look forward to seeing you there. Oh.. nearly forgot to mention that you’ll find lots of free events (as well as charged for) plus a family chill out zone to relax between events. There’s a good chance you’ll spot me there grabbing a break - I can always dream can’t I?
