Scotland's Bookshelf - Aye Write! FREE city read

The Mitchell Library is a wonderful home for Aye Write! and when the iconic North Street building celebrated its centenary in November 2011, it seemed a good time to look back at Scottish writing of the last 100 years. Mitchell librarians scoured the shelves for great Scottish books covering the period 1911- 2011.

From Peter and Wendy in 1911 to Girl Meets Boy in 2008, with masterpieces of fiction, poetry and history in between, we think these 20 books deserve a place on every Scottish bookshelf.

Our panel - made up of The Herald’s Rosemary Goring, Karen Cunningham, Head of Glasgow Libraries and Director of Aye Write! and Professor Willy Maley of Glasgow University - had the unenviable task of settling on two books for each decade, to come up with 20 titles for Scotland’s Bookshelf.
