Sandy McGrattan and John Wallace: The Trumpet

Sandy McGrattan, principal trumpet player, Scottish Ballet, and John Wallace, principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a virtuoso trumpet player, have co-authored The Trumpet the first major book devoted to the instrument in more than two decades. They trace a surprising evolution and colourful performance history, from the Baroque ‘golden age’, through the advent of valved brass instruments in the nineteenth century, and the trumpet’s renaissance in the jazz age, with performance and demonstration throughout.
