Francine Stock: A Century of Film

In her new book, In Glorious Technicolour, Francine Stock, presenter of BBC Radio Four’s The Film Programme, explores the nature of our relationship with film - from the first screenings of the Lumiere Brothers’ short films to the perception-altering 3D Avatar including the birth of celebrity in the 1920s, film noir in the forties, sci-fi in the fifties, the social change of the sixties, seventies’ paranoia and the high-concept blockbusters.
