Alan Bissett, Rodge Glass and Richard Wilson discuss Football and Sectarianism
Page Content
Since 1888 Rangers and Celtic football clubs have been locked into an intense and frequently explosive rivalry. Focussing on the 2010 New Year Derby, Richard Wilson’s Inside the Divide presents a mix of closeup observation and big picture thinking, starting as the fans begin to arrive in Glasgow and ending as the long night stretches out in front of them following the match. Wilson is joined in discussion by Alan Bissett - Spirit of Scotland Scottish Writer of the Year - whose Pack Men looks at sectarianism and other issues when Glasgow Rangers took over Manchester for the 2008 European cup final, and by Rodge Glass, author of the forthcoming novel Bring Me the Head of Ryan Giggs, a satire on Premiership football which examines homophobic and racist prejudice in the game. Teddy Jamieson, Senior Features Writer at The Herald and author of Whose Side Are You On? Sport, the Troubles and Me, will also be appearing.
