Tom Watson has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for West Bromwich East since 2001. Watson was a Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Office from 2008 to 2009. In 2011 he was made the first ever Deputy Chair of the Labour Party, with responsibility for co-ordinating Labour's campaigning. Before entering the House of Commons, Tom worked as the Political Adviser to Sir Ken Jackson at the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union. Watson joined the Parliamentary Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport in 2009 when he began to campaign against wrongful media practices. He led the questioning of Rupert and James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks when they appeared before the Committee on 19 July 2011 and continues to be in the forefront of the investigation. This is the topic of his new book from Penguin, co-authored with Martin Hickman.
