Judith Bowers
Judith Bowers is an archaeologist, historian, tour guide, writer and performer. Following the establishment of the Spirit of Glasgow walking Tours, she encountered an Italianate former music hall - the Britannia Panopticon - which had seen, among others, the debut of Stan Laurel, a basement zoo and a roof-top freak show. After many years, she was able to get access to the building. By the end of April 1997 Judith had established an office in the building, and by October she had managed to gather together a few interested people to help set up a charitable trust in the interest of preserving and protecting it - the rest, as they say, is history. She tells the story of the hall in
Stan Laurel and Other Stars of the Panopticon
and also performs classic music hall songs and sketches.
