Archie Hind’s The Dear Green Place is one of the best books ever written about Glasgow. First published in 1966, and in print ever since, the story of Mat Craig and his struggle to write make it a modern classic. The List said ’From renditions of The Mist Covered Mountains on the bagpipes, to the poetic refrain about the Glasgow coat-of-arms, to the unmistakable descriptions of its streets, rivers and buildings, the sense of place and time couldn’t be stronger.’ It contributes ’something fresh and different’.

Archie Hind (1928-2008)

This event will now be a celebration of the life and work of Archie Hind. Alan Taylor, Alasdair Gray and John Linklater will read from Archie's work and talk about his life. We hope that all those who have bought tickets for this event will join with us and Archie's family to celebrate a great writer, a good life and a wonderful book.
