March 1989: former steelworker, Harry Perkins, is elected prime minister on a manifesto which includes the removal of American bases, public control of finance and the dismantling of the newspaper monopolies. As MI5 conspires with the City and the press Barons to bring Perkins down, he finds himself caught up in a no-holds-barred battle for survival in A Very British Coup. 2014: The Republicans have re-conquered the White House, the Conservatives have just won a second term at Westminster and hardliners dominate Russia. In a small corner of north-western Europe, the Scots have just narrowly voted for independence, a decision they immediately regret. Chris Mullin MP, author of A Very British Coup, discusses political fiction with Alan Clements, author of Rogue Nation, the story of Scotland facing independence.
