2010 AYE WRITE! BOOK FESTIVAL PROGRAMME UNVEILED 
 

Aye Write! Glasgow’s Book Festival returns to the Mitchell Library from 5 – 13 March 2010 bringing another stellar line-up of authors to the city. The festival, which is in its fifth year, features local talent alongside national and international authors for a celebration of books, poetry and family events, community projects, debates and another extensive schools programme.

Among the highlights will be a special preview event on Monday 1March 2010 when the poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy will read from some of her more recent work. Authors taking part range from Albie Sachs, the great South African jurist and humanitarian, to Germaine Greer, who looks back on 40 years of feminism.

Along the way, you’ll encounter among many others, Tariq Ali, Joanna Trollope, Michael Mansfield, William Boyd, John Simpson, Susie Orbach, Jasper Fforde, David Dimbleby and Sir Ian Blair to name just a few. In total, there will be more than 100 events included in Aye Write!

Louise Welsh’s new novel and a book examining Glasgow’s status as a great sporting city will be launched during Aye Write! There will also be two hours on the great work of Aardman Animations, the launch of our Summer Read programme and

Aye Write! 2010 will include a number of themes including The Future of the Media, The Future of the Left, Globalisation and a major debate about the place of Scottish Literature in the school curriculum. Around 28,000 people attended Aye Write! Festival events in 2009, around 8,000 up on the previous year.

Bailie Liz Cameron, the Chair of Aye Write! Glasgow’s Book Festival said: ”Every year we set ourselves the seemingly impossible task of improving on the previous Aye Write! For 2010 we have pulled out all the stops to build a programme that is exciting and thought provoking and crammed full of some of the brightest literary talent from near and far. “

AYE WRITE! BOOK FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR 2010


The Aye Write! Book Festival returns to the Mitchell Library from 5 – 13 March 2010 bringing another stellar line-up of authors to Glasgow. The festival, which is in its fifth year will feature local talent alongside national and international authors for a celebration of books, poetry and family events alongside community projects and another extensive schools programme.


Aye Write! 2010 will include a number of themes including The Future of the Media, The Future of the Left, Globalisation and a major debate about the place of Scottish Literature in the school curriculum.


The full line up of authors won’t be announced until next year but among the authors and writers already confirmed to take part are bestseller Joanna Trollope, Glasgow born playwright and poet Carol Ann Duffy, musician and writer Edwin Collins and BBC World Affairs Editor John Simpson.


Around 28,000 people attended Aye Write! Festival events in 2009, around 8,000 up on the previous year. Some 40,000 people took part in the City Wide Read which included four texts including the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel, The Lost World.  Almost 200 authors took part in events for Aye Write! Book Festival in 2009.

The themes for 2010 could hardly be more varied and topical and will spark some real debate amongst audiences.
